This year Miss Sunderland is being sponsored by The Pullman Lodge in Seaburn Sunderland & also being supported by Sunderland Echo, Sun FM & One Voice Productions Ltd. The press launch took place at RAF Boulmer with the reigning Miss Sunderland Alexandra Devine adding a touch of glamour to the event. Since being crowned Miss Sunderland 2009 Alexandra has been very busy in the modeling world working on a number of assignments with AM Models in addition to carrying out a wealth of charitable work. One of her nominated charities, the Alopecia: Be Bold campaign saw Alexandra and Miss Sunderland organiser and presenter Simon Robertson undergoing three hours of prosthetics showing the effects of Alopecia. The charities nominated to benefit from the 2010 event are Help for Heroes and the Grace House children’s hospice appeal. “We knew after the huge success of this year’s competition we had to raise the bar for 2010. We have already had many applicants and next year’s final promises to be even bigger than this year. I wanted to put Sunderland back on the map and Alexandra has represented the city magnificently”Event Organiser - Simon Robertson. Last year’s final raised £4000 for the chosen charity the Sunderland Foundation and was a huge success, as following weeks of hype and huge media interest, 24 of Sunderland’s finest girls strutted their stuff in front of a capacity audience. The judging panel included representatives from Sky One’s Gladiators, and award stylist Neville Ramsay of Ramsay & Jonson and the girls completed four rounds which comprised of Corporate Businesswear, Clubwear, Eveningwear and an interview. In the lead up to the final, the Miss Sunderland competition was the subject of much media attention. Four candidates were picked to be ring girls by Boxing Promoter Frank Maloney for local hero Tony Jefferies which was broadcast on Sky Sports . Two finalists were picked to zip-wire across the Stadium of Light for the Sunderland Foundation and were interviewed on Sun FM. Finally on the morning of Miss Sunderland final Miss Sunderland organiser and presenter Simon Robertson participated in a Radio Newcastle debate on Beauty Competitions. Media coverage included The Sunderland Echo, The Journal, Sunday Sun, Northern Echo and Shields Gazette with Miss Sunderland taking the front cover of the July Edition of Accent magazine as photographed by Laura Jane Vest.
