Most of her early performances were to sing for family and friends at birthdays and weddings. She started to enter talent contests in her mid teens when she was 15 and entered a contest called Music Means Life in early 2008, after reading about it in the local press and seeing it on TV, a contest with an aim in attracting young unsigned talent and profits going to local good cause that she won and her feet haven’t touched the ground since. Karen has been fortunate to meet numerous record label executives andeven had a meeting with music legend, Pete Waterman and Simon Cowell's company 'SYCO'. Shameem Karim DancersThe Shameem Karim School of dance do all kinds of dancing including tap, modern, ballet, lyrical, jazz as well as a lot of show and competition work. The school has been running for over 10 years Pupils can attend the dance school from a young age ranging from only 2yrs old and onwards .Pupils can also attend singing lessons which also happen at the school on a Saturday.
