Official Launch

MISS SUNDERLAND 2010 GETS OF TO A FLIER!Miss Sunderland launched its 2010 campaign to find the next Miss Sunderland on Tuesday 8 December in front of the press and media. Miss Sunderland swooped into RAF Boulmer to launch the search to find the next Miss Sunderland to represent the city at the Miss England final next summer. The contest will have a 'Forces Sweetheart' theme ... with the current Miss Sunderland, Alexandra Devine launching the contest sporting a bottom half of combats & army boots and swimwear / glam evening gown & crown on her top half - to emphasise the glamour ... and seriousness of the contest and the money to be raised. This year's launch took place at RAF Boulmer where a Search and Rescue helicopter of A Flight 202 Squadron provided the backdrop. After the absence of the competition for a number of years One Voice Productions brought the event back with a bang in 2009 when Alexandra Devine scooped the Miss Sunderland title. We are delighted to announce that the chosen charities for the 2010 campaign are Help for Heroes and Grace House North East Children's Hospice Appeal. The event will be hosted by ITV Tyne Tees Philippa Tomson along with Event Organiser & Presenter Simon Robertson of One Voice Productions. Girls aged between 17 and 24 are invited to enter with heats taking place in the New Year in the city. The organisers are delighted to announce that the final takes place again at the Stadium of Light on Friday 7th May and is being supported by Sunderland AFC. The 2010 final will be very exciting with lots of challenges facing the girls in the run up to the final; from muddy assault courses to catwalk training and much more. Heats for the final will be taking place at venues across the city in the New Year to find 23 finalists, the 24th will once again be chosen by the readers of the Sunderland Echo.If you have what it takes we want to hear from you!

"We are delighted to be able to support the launch of this event, which will raise money for two very worthwhile causes". Wing Commander Alan Clark, Officer Commanding Support Wing at RAF Boulmer

“Being Miss Sunderland has been one of the best years of my life, being in the spotlight has definitely improved my confidence and it will be sad to hand over the crown, but I am sure the girl who wins will have as much fun as I have”Alexandra Devin, Miss Sunderland 2009

"We knew after the huge success of this years competition we had to raise the bar for 2010, we have already had many apply and the 2010 final promises to be even bigger than this year. I wanted to put Sunderland back on the map and the current Miss Sunderland Alexandra Devine has represented the city magnificently. We will be looking for 23 finalists & once again will be giving the last place to the peoples choice. It's about beauty from within as well as beauty on the outside". Simon Robertson- Event Organiser
